We engraved our fingerprints in the Gambian social life with our extensive social investments. We extended hands to the young generation by sponsoring football teams and supporting schools. We listened to the remote farmers and supported them with their land in “back to the land” promotions. We even had our own beauty pageant! Yes, Africell was the first mobile Operator in The Gambia that gave the opportunity for Gambians to choose their own beauty ambassador to represent their youth and culture!
Our transparency and love for the Gambia led us to the very leadership of the market In July 2006 in terms of subscribers. In April 2008, we hit the 500,000 mark and remained the market leader with more than 63% market share. Currently, we have more than 1,600,000 loyal subscribers and remain the market leader with a 63% share.
In January 2018, Africell launched the 4G/LTE network services covering the greater Banjul with a plan to cover all of the Gambia, providing the fastest speed with 150 Mbit/s downloads and uploads.
In September 2019, Africell introduced the 4G+ network, and the download speed increased from 150 to 300 Mbit/s.
